Muslims pray for peaceful elections
The Muslim community on Friday took advantage of Ziyarah parade, the climax of the celebration of the birthday of Prophet Muhammad, to appeal to Malawians to pray for peaceful September 16 General Election.
Limbe Muslim Jamaat (LMJ), Faizan Global Relief Foundation (FGRF) and Attariqatul Qadria Sunni Association (AQSA) organised the parade in Blantyre on Friday and emphasised the importance of unity across religious and political divides.

The event’s coordinator Muhammad Jussab said Malawi should preserve peace to develop.
He said: “Let Muslims and fellow Christians pray for our country Malawi that we should have peaceful, free, fair and credible elections. We need the best president, the best members of Parliament and best ward councillors.
“Our youths should desist from being used by politicians to perpetrate violence. Only those who have best manifestos should run the country.”
The event’s vice-coordinator Yassin Giga thanked Allah for bringing more Muslims to attend the function.
He, however, urged Muslims to attain secular and Islamic education.
Speaking on behalf of the three organisations, Ibrahim Mataya said they also implement charity activities in the Southern Region.
He said they donate different relief items to less privileged people and hospitals.
Mataya said they donated food and non-food items worth K250 million to 1 000 patients at Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital in Blantyre.
One of the people who attended the parade, Yusuf Rajabu from Soche in Blantyre thanked the organisers for giving him maize flour.
Another person Mary Phiri from Pirimiti in Chiradzulu District said apart from celebrating the life of Prophet Muhammad, she received maize flour.
“Prophet Muhammad encouraged people to do charity. The organisers are doing that, which is commendable,” she said.
The parade started from Kanjedza Masjid Mosque to Mpingwe Sports Club via Limber where participants had prayers.
